WEAR THE PHILOSOPHY

Plato is talking about education, what you put into a mind before it can argue back. But the principle outruns its subject. Foundations are laid once and carried forever; whatever is set down first shapes everything built on top of it, long after anyone remembers laying it. Begin badly and you spend years correcting. Set in monumental, architecturally balanced type across the back, with our quill mark at the left chest and the wordmark inside the neck. An intellectual uniform, not a trend piece.

ON ATTRIBUTION

Plato’s Republic has been translated into English dozens of times, and each translator makes different choices. Most versions circulating online are modern and still in copyright. We use Benjamin Jowett’s, the rendering that carried Plato into English for generations of readers, and long out of copyright. We print what the translator actually wrote, and we tell you which one.


THE BLUEPRINT & MATERIALS

  • The Fabric: Heavyweight combed cotton jersey, 100% cotton, 260gsm.
  • The Dye Process: Pigment dyed after cut-and-sew, yielding a softer hand, a lived-in finish, and subtle, natural color variation at the seams and edges that mass-dyed tees cannot match.
  • The Construction: Side-seamed with double-needle topstitching at the sleeves and bottom hem for lasting durability.
  • The Details: Tear-away tags for all-day comfort. Under 6% shrinkage.
  • The Ink: Warm Parchment on Pigment Black and Midnight Navy; deep ink on Pigment White.

FIT & CARE

  • The Silhouette: An intentionally oversized, boxy cut with a slightly cropped length, a vintage academic shape made for everyday wear.
  • Sizing: Order your standard size for the intended relaxed fit; size down for a closer cut.
  • Care: Machine wash cold, inside out, and separately. Tumble dry low. The pigment-dyed character deepens beautifully with time.

A note on garment dyeing. Each piece is pigment-dyed individually, so shade and texture vary slightly from garment to garment. That variation is intentional. It is what gives the finish its depth, and it is not a fault. Color may transfer or fade with the first few washes, so wash separately and keep it away from pale fabrics.
